Academic Job Hunting Season

Academic job hunting season starts in about six weeks Are you ready?

If not, or if you are not sure, make sure you prepare over the next month.

Attention to detail counts- here are some things to think about starting with this summer.

Cover letter- a nice template that can be mixed and matched for various positions

CV- Up to date, and proof read twice. In fact, best to get a professional editor to read your CV and your cover letter.

References. Do you have updated letters you can send in yourself? Do your references know you are using them again?

Teaching statement- Yes, some places ask for one

Research statement- Ditto

Interview clothes- Do they fit? Are they impeccable? Dry clean now and leave in plastic. Do you have decent shoes (I am talking to you, guys!)?

Carry on suitcase- Can you find it? Is it in decent shape? You may be picked up at the airport- you don't want to use the same bag you used for the Dead show in 98'.

Laptop bag and laptop- Same as above- clean and in good order.

Job presentation- Start to think of them now, and prepare a couple you can use for different types of positions you may apply for.

Here are a few things to get you started- more tips to come!
